Entry Requirements: A valid passport and a visa or tourist card are necessary to immigrate to Venezuela. Tourist Cards are provided by the airlines on international flights to Venezuela.
Climate: There are no marked seasons in Venezuela and Margarita Island. The temperature on the island varies from 33º C in September and 28 º C in January. We recommend being extra cautious when exposing to the sun,as what may feel comfortable due to the onshore breazes will burn you in less time than you think.
Currency: Legal currency is Bolívar. There are coins for 5, 10, 20, 50, 100,and bills for 1.000, 2.000, 5.000, 10.000 and 20.000 Bolívares.
Currency restrictions: Money exchange should be done at Commercial Banks and Exchange Houses at the official exchange rate of 2150Bs per US$. However you will see many people willing to pay more for your US$. DO NOT TRADE ON THE STREETS
Credit Cards: Visa, MasterCard and American Express (fewer) cards are accepted in almost all shops, stores, restaurants, hotels, bars and night clubs, as well as traveler checks. Credit cards are accepted by most tourist establishments. Outside of larger cities a good supply of Bolívar is required.
Transportation: Public transport in Margarita will take you everywhere on the island at a very low cost, but for new visitors will find it quite difficult as there are no real timetables, although it is frequent within the city of Porlamar (Fares from 170 Bs. To 200 Bs.). Getting a local taxi is the best way to get around the island, and like any country we suggest you establish the price before you ride!
Car Rentals: Renting a car is slightly higher in price than the USA, but gasoline prices are so low you can fill a car up completely for about $1.50!
